Stephan & Ludovic von Neipperg

One family

The von Neipperg family history has been intertwined with winegrowing since the 13th century.
Stephan von Neipperg currently manages the Bordeaux estates acquired by his father in the early 1970s with talent and enthusiasm.

The upcoming generation, also deeply attached to the terroir, is preparing to perpetuate the family’s work.

Introduction

Château d’Aiguilhe was acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in late 1998, and is one of the most beautiful vineyards in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Located back from the river, the château’s dignified ruins bear witness to a long history. Today, the estate covers a vast 140-acre terroir of woods, meadows and vines. The vines grow exclusively on the plateau, where they benefit from south-facing sun exposure and excellent natural drainage.
A thin layer of rather meagre clay-limestone and clay-silt topsoil overlays a limestone substratum that ensures remarkable water regulation. Combined with the average age of the vines, this terroir is ideal for producing quality wine.

“An ecological approach, in order to pass on a sound and consistent plant heritage to future generations, with the notion of family continuity remaining paramount.”

Philosophy

Our cultivation methods are largely biodynamic, and preserving the ecosystem and the biodiversity of the entire estate is central to our agroforestry approach. An ecological approach to pass on a sound and consistent plant heritage to future generations, with the notion of family continuity remaining paramount. With a view to using the land to nourish the entire vineyard, Château d’Aiguilhe was one of the first estates to have its own natural composting station and use mass selection.
