When Jacques Thienpont visited this estate in the Côtes de Castillon during the harvest of 2015, he was immediately struck by the great location and the stunning view, perched at the end of the limestone plateau that runs eastwards from Saint-Émilion.
Jacques Thienpont, déjà propriétaire de deux domaines portant des noms d’arbres à Pomerol avec Le Pin et L’If à Saint Emilion, a acquis en 2016 avec sa sœur Anne De Raeymaeker le Château Goubau situé sur le plateau argilo-calcaire de Saint Philippe d’Aiguilhe. C’est naturellement dans la lignée des noms d’arbres qu’ils l’ont baptisé L’Hêtre et nommé leur neveu Maxime Thienpont à la tête du nouveau domaine. Le terroir est composé d’un plateau calcaire et d’un mélange de sols argileux, calcaires et crayeux.

L’Hêtre was the first of the Theinpont family’s vineyards to be certified organic, in 2012. By means of this environmental commitment, the Thienpont family wishes to preserve the quality of the L’Hêtre terroir, its biodiversity and the well-being of the people who work there, whilst respecting the traditions handed down by previous generations.
